Taylors (795 N. Jefferson St.) stands out on the busy block near Bad Genie Rock Lounge (789 N. Jefferson St.) and Flannery’s Bar and Restaurant (425 E. Wells St.). Its intimate setting, low lighting and hip drinks sets it apart from its neighbors and attracts a young professional clientele.

I was pleasantly surprised at the relaxed atmosphere when I was there with some coworkers on a Monday night. Bar manager Nick Cuda treated our rowdy crew with respect and attentiveness. Taylors proved to be the perfect gathering spot on a weeknight.

The proximity to Cathedral Square Park is an attractive element of Taylors, especially as Jazz in the Park and the warm summer months quickly approach. Although I am a huge fan of the drinking-wine-in-the-streets event every Thursday, I am not an admirer of the set-up/clean-up routine that accompanies some elaborate picnic settings. Taylors’ outdoor seating, which complements their interior’s cozy tables and long, curvy bar, may be the answer to my dilemma. A pre-Jazz cocktail at Taylors sitting outside will still allow you to listen to the music without the grass stains on your white pants.

Happy hour is available on weeknights at Taylors from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Deals include $1 off all tap beers, $4 house wines and $3 Stoli, Seagram’s 7, Bombay, Captain Morgan and Bacardi products.

Showing off its trendy status, Taylors also offers a variety of bottle services that includes your choice of mixers. Absolut bottle service is available for $125 and $150 for Grey Goose and Patron.

The friendly and personable bar staff mixes up creative martinis ($8) like Melon Pink, which has Bacardi Apple, Watermelon Pucker and cranberry juice. Central Park (perhaps it should be changed to Cathedral Square Park) is a fruity combination of Absolut Citron, Peach Schnapps, orange juice, cranberry Juice and grenadine. Bay Bridge combines Van Gogh Pomegranate, Triple Sec, cranberry juice and sour mix.

Although Taylors promotes an upscale environment, beer drinkers do not feel uncomfortable at all. Spotted Cow ($3.50), Blue Moon ($4), Guinness ($5) and Lakefront Riverwest Stein ($4) are all on tap. Imported Beer includes Peroni ($4) and Red Stripe ($4).

Try Taylors for their 13th Anniversary Party on April 23. The party starts at 4 p.m. and offers drink specials and complimentary appetizers all night.
